From the land of gold, the Highveld, to the silent tranquillity of the deserted Great Karoo and onward to the lush, pristine Cape Winelands, your jaw will drop as you soak in pure South African nature. Your trip reaches its conclusion in the Mother City, cosmopolitan Cape Town; where urban, modern chic marries the rugged ancient mountains and peaks. Notable stops along the north and southbound routes include historic Matjiesfontein, a Victorian village; the diamond diva, Kimberly, where you can visit the Diamond Mine Museum and witness the largest man-made excavation and memento of the diamond rush-- The Big Hole.

Day 1 - 15h00 Depart from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. The train travels overnight to Kimberly. Dinner is served on the train.

Day 2 - 10h00 The train arrives in Kimberley where passengers visit the Big Hole and the Diamond Mine                                     Museum.
                12h30 Depart Kimberley and travel overnight  via De Aar and Beaufort West to Matjiesfontein.
Day 3 - 08h15 A tour of the historic Victorian village and musuem of Matjiesfontein.
                10h30 The train departs and heads to Cape Town via Touws River and Worcester.
                18h00 Arrive at Cape Town Station’s Platform 24.

Victoria Falls -        
This magical journey* comrpises three days. It begins at the Rovos Rail station in Pretoria, where it departs through the south of Johannesburg. Passengers will be able to see the goldfields of the Witwatersrand before heading west alongside the marvellous Magaliesberg Mountains. At Maifkeng, there will be border checks and formalities. However, soon the train will start up, ready for the adventure to the Falls, travelling north through Botswana's capital, Gaborone, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn. Through the border of Zimbabwe, the train then travels through the Hwange National Park; make sure you spot some African wildlife from the Observation Deck. A quick service stop at Thompsons Junction and soon, the train arrives at the magnificent Victorian Falls on the long and lush Zambezi River. The areas surrounding this region are perfect for all manner of activities including game-viewing, bungee jumping, cruises and white water rafting to name a few. 

Please note that depending upon railway capacity this journey could be routed northwards through Beitbridge and Zimbabwe. *As of 1 July 2014, the journey will include an additional night that involves a game drive at The Hide in Zimbabwe’s glorious Hwange National Park – one of the world’s most  diverse wildlife sanctuaries. The existing published rate will not change until 30 September 2014  and will be incorporated in the new itinerary, after which the usual annual rates changes will be implemented.

Day 1 - 09h30 From the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria, the train departs. En route to Zeerlust, lunch will be served to guests in the dining cars. After Magaliesberg, dinner will be served en route to Mafikeng.

Day 2 - Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as the train travels northwards through                             Mahalapye and Serule en route to Plumtree for Zimbabwe border formalities.
Day 3 - Breakfast and lunch are served as the jounrey contiues through the Hwange Game Reserve and along the longest straight stretches of railway line in Africa – 114kms – en route to Dete and the Zambezi        River. Wildlife can be spotted from the train cars and Observation Deck.
                17h00 Arrive at final destination- The Victoria Falls.

Durban Safari -
involving three days of bliss where you can experience game drives, historic battlefield tours and African ceramic art between Pretoria and Durban, this safari package departs during the summer months. This tour takes you to the luxurious Kwa-Zulu Natal Big Five retreat, Nambiti Conservancy, set upon 20,000 acres of malaria-free veld. The terrain is diverse, including savannah, grasslands, graceful acacias and thorn-veld. Spionkop Lodge is located on the large game farm and buttresses the nature reserve. This 11,000 acre sanctuary is wonderful for those who want to explore. You can choose from the mountains, bush, birding and learning about the battlefields. Ardmore Ceramics caters to your cultural palate, allowing you to learn about the Zulu people and their history of rhythm, colour, dance and song. After you have enjoyed the art, nature and culture, your journey takes you to the Valley of a Thousand Hills and onto Durban.

Day 1 - 10h00 the train departs the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. Lunch is served as the train tarvels through the Drakensberg. By afternoon, the train makes its way up Majuba Hill (2146m/7040ft) . Dinner is served en route to Elandslaagte, where it stops overnight.

Day 2 - 06h00 Wake-up call. tea, coffee, juice and pastries are served in the dining car/s before a game drive at the Nambiti Private Game Reserve. Passengers return to the train at 11h00 and the train proceeds to Estcourt. 14h00 Passengers disembark for a 40-minute drive to the Spionkop Lodge where guests can choose from an escourted tour of the battlefields or a game drive in the Spionkop Game Reserve. Guests then return to the train for dinner. 
Day 3 - Breakfast is served as the train makes its way down the escaprment that leads to Lions River Station. 
                10h00  Ardmore Ceramics Gallery visit including an equestrian display and tea.
                12h00 Depart for Durban. The train travels through the majestic Valley of a Thousand Hills.
                16h00 Arrive at journey’s end in Durban.

Golf Safari Tours
Rovos Rail has designed two* delightful nine-day safaris to entertain the most discerning player with optional excursions for non-playing guests at all venues. The Golf Safari begins in Pretoria and travels west to Sun City in the hills of the Pilanesberg for a day at this renowned facility including a game drive for non-golfers. In the foothills of the imposing Drakensberg Mountains, 18 holes await at the Champagne Sports Resort with a guided tour of the battlefields a further highlight for non-golfers. Enjoy a game at Durban Country Club or tour the city. Then it’s on to Zululand for game viewing at Hluhluwe before heading to Swaziland. Tee off at Royal Swazi or enjoy a game drive at Mkhaya and a visit to Ngwenya Glass and Guava Gallery. Golfers then play the challenging Leopard Creek course while non-golfers enjoy a game drive in the world-famous Kruger Park, after which this memorable journey ends in Pretoria.

Day 1 - 10h00 Depart Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria and travel to Koster for overnight stop. Day at leisure on                the train.

Namibia Safari -
This nine-day annual journey covers 3 400-kilometres. The train takes passengers from the Highveld to the cool, blue Atlantic in the West. The train departs from the Pretoria station and arrives at Kimberly, one of the cities known for the famous diamond rush of the 1870s. Here, guests can educate themselves on the one of the most exciting periods in human history and visit the mine museum village. The train then makes its way to the barren Fish River Canyon, in the Northern Cape. The canyon is second in size only to the Grand Canyon in the US. More natural wonder awaits as the train continues onto the stark and solitary beauty of the Kalahari Desert and onto Windhoek, the Namibian capital. A short flight takes the guests to the haunting Sossusvlei dunes in the Namib Desert. After a visit at the pan, there is overnight stay followed by a night in the Etosha National Park for game-viewing. The last day, the train travels across the Namib to its last destination; the historically preserved 19th-century German Hansa town, Swakopmund.

Dar es Salaam -
This 14 day* takes you through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe. Zambia and Tanzania; a truly epic journey that is famed worldwide. The trip starts in Cape Town where guests visit the historic village of Matjiesfontein. From there, the train will stop at Kimberly and Pretoria for short tours after which guests will stay two nights at the Madikwe Game Reserve. The train travels through Botswana and into Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, guests stay overnight at the plush Victoria Falls Hotel. Once the guests have seen the Zambezi River, the train joins the Tazara line in Zambia and arrives at the Chisimba Falls, where passengers can enjoy a beautiful bush walk. The train then traverses the Tanzania Border before beginning its descent into the Great Rift Valley, a truly magnificent site of nature. As the train travels to Dar es Salaam, it passes through the largest game reserve in Africa, the Selous Game Reserve.

*In 2015, the journey shall be 15 days , including a game drive in the Selous. Please note that depending upon the railway’s capacity this journey could be routed northwards through Beitbridge and Zimbabwe.

Ten minutes after departing                              Kimberley a shallow lake appears on the left-hand side of the train where often one sees spectacular flocks of Lesser Flamingos (approximately 23 000). Travel from the Karoo to the                          Highveld. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 3 - 10h00 Arrive at Rovos Rail Station in Capital Park, Pretoria. Enjoy a walking tour of the station and                      locomotive workshops (weather permitting) followed by lunch on the platform and a city tour of                        Pretoria at 14h15.
                 18h00 Depart for Zeerust in the North West Province. Dinner and overnight on board.
